The Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) believes that Albania deserves to move forward in the process of European integration and that it deserves to obtain candidate status for EU membership within this year as a crucial step towards the country’s future, SMI leader Ilir Meta said at a meeting with the Council of Europe co-rapporteurs on Wednesday. Meta received Tomas Jirsa (Czech Republic, EDG) and Grigore Petrenco (Republic of Moldova, UEL), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), who are on a fact-finding mission to monitor obligations and commitments by Albania. SMI leader stated that all political parties should engage in an institutional and constructive dialogue to press ahead and fully implement the required reforms in the interest of the country’s European integration. During the meeting, the interlocutors welcomed cooperating climate among the political factors over the past few months, in a clear contrast to the last year’s political stalemate, saying the dialogue is a real contribution to the ongoing efforts to speed up EU integration reforms. /albeu.com/
