Schools in Kosovo go on strike

Union of Education, Science and Culture has decided to begin a strike in all primary and secondary schools in Kosovo. The strike will begin on Tuesday. Chairman of the Union Rahman Jasharaj, told "Express" newspaper that the decision was taken today at the Governing Council of the Union.

"On Tuesday we will not work the first hour during the morning and afternoon classes. And the situation will continue escalating. On January 30th we will hold a whole day of strike", he continued.

Unionists are demanding full implementation of the Collective Agreement, which gives them a wage increase of 0.5% for a year of service, 2 euros daily meal, ticket payment for teachers who travel and three salaries for those who retire. In addition, they demanding for the salary to increase by 25%, as Hashim Thaci promised.

Even LDK promised wage increases during the election campaign, saying that an increase of 42 % would be satisfactory. Ramush Haradinaj on the other hand said that during his term, the average salary of a teacher would be 1 thousand euros. /albeu.com/
