Judges of the District Court of Korca have embraced a project supported by the OSCE that aims to reduce delays in the trial, after the positive results achieved by this project in another court in Albania.

"Long judicial processes are undermining confidence in justice in Albania. The project that we are introducing today in Korca has to do with ensuring the provision of immediate justice through concrete measures to reduce delays, "said Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Ambassador Florian Raunig.

Present in the meeting was also the President of the Republic of Albania, Bujar Nishani, Minister of Justice, Nasip Naco, President of the High Court, Xhezair Zaganjori, and the Ambassador of the United States of America, Alexander Arvizu.

OSCE Presence in Albania and the Project for Strengthening the Justice System USAID (JuST) developed the project "Justice without delay" after a study conducted by The Presence showed that almost half of the Albanian courts sessions were unproductive.

The project received strong support from the High Council of Justice and the Ministry of Justice. In Kruja, which was initially implemented a pilot project in February this year, the judges reduced the average number of hearings in criminal cases from 8.8 to 1.8. Also, the number of cases closed by the District Court of Kruja during this time was 150% higher than a year ago. /albeu.com/
