President Jahjaga meets Pope Francis

President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga met today at the Holy See at the Vatican His Holiness, Pope Francis. In the meeting that lasted about 40 minutes, President Jahjaga expressed her gratitude for such meeting considering it a gesture of trust and recognition of Kosovo's efforts to strengthen the interfaith harmony and ambitions to live in peace and freedom in a society of equal citizens.

Jahjaga thanked Pope Francis for His messages of hope and inclusion and praised the supporting role of the Holy See for Kosovo.

She said that that in her difficult path, Kosovo has been inspired by the instructions of Pope John Paul II and the patience and humanity of Mother Teresa.

President Jahjaga said that Kosovo today, as a new state in Europe, has undergone a difficult history of repression and ethnic cleansing and it was constructed based on the individual and collective sacrifice.

Stating that Kosovo today is recognized by 108 countries of the world, Jahjaga said she hopes that the Holy See would support the vision of Kosovo to be an independent and democratic country. /
