No agreement for the Electoral Code
The small left and right leaning parties failed Monday to reach an agreement on changes to the Electoral Code. The round-table, held at Hotel Sheraton on Monday, was initiated by the Social Democracy and Republican Parties. At the end of the meeting, representatives of 23 small parties agreed to signing a joint package after considering suggestions by all political parties.Organisation of free and fair elections was the main concern of the party representatives, who requested the realisation of an electoral reform based on two principles: transparency and inclusion of all parties. The chairman of the Social-Democratic Party, Skender Gjinushi, said that ballot-rigging remained a problem in the existing code.”The Spanish system has been unfairly implemented. Therefore amendments are needed through the method of national correction," he said.Democratic Party (DP) representative Ilir Rusmali said that the DP would support the small parties for an electoral reform, in line with standards, and appreciated the performance of the electoral commission to attain very significant results. SP chairman Edi Rama said that the existing system "has not been tested in a normal process." "There is no anti-democratic system, every system is democratic. It is important for the system to function in a democratic manner," he said. /albeu.com/
