Unionists claim that in the next meeting with the Economic and Social Council will seek correction of minimum wage and the removal of categorization, which according to them discriminate employees based on age.

The minimum wage for workers in Kosovo, despite the increase in the cost of living, is the lowest in the region. Since 2011 it has not changed and the salary is also categorized by age, for workers under 35 years of age is 130 euros, while for those over 35 years - 170 euros.

Unionists continue to oppose the salary level, as well as the categorization of employees, says the Confederation's deputy, Alush Sejdiu.

"We never have accepted categorization of the minimum wage, but the government has issued an administrative directive to implement the minimum wage in Kosovo and it is a three-year term," says Sejdiu.

President of the Kosovo Business Alliance, Agim Shahini says that this year such issue should be discussed. There is a chance that the increase of minimum wage in the private sector will also increase informality.

Social Economic Council is headed by the Minister of Labor and Social Welfare Arban Abrashi, who did not comment on this issue. /albeu.com/
