The new head of the IMF mission in Albania said that what happened in the Central Bank was a serious event. In an interview to economic magazine "Monitor", Jens Reinke says that the investigation of the police should find those reponsible for stealing 713 million leks.

"This is very serious. We have been informed that the Bank of Albania and other national institutions are taking precautions and measures to find out what has happened. It is important for the investigation to continue and get to some concrete results. When all facts are known and always if there is any implication of the Bank, Albanian authorities must treat the case according the law. The law for the Central Bank has served this country well, by making sure for the Bank to make professional decisions regarding macroeconomic management and finanical stability, including here even the period of the deep global crisis during 2008 and later, when the banking system was exposed to pressures coming from outside. In the same time, we would welcome measures that strengthen the law of the central bank regarding its main term and operational activity", he said. /
