French Ambassador to Albania Christine Moro said Monday that French Fund for Global Environment and several research institutes have launched in March implementation of an important project designed to support sustainable rural development in Albania through revival of the vegetation, diversity in plants and natural resources. "The main goal of this project is to protect and develop the diversity of the vegetation and plants in Albania’s mountainous regions, the medicinal plants and herbs in particular," Moro said, adding that this diversity in plants and herbs is a very valuable natural resource. According to her, the remote mountainous areas of the country are plagued with high rates of unemployment and emigration. Collection and packing of the medicinal plants and herbs will become a significant source of employment and income for the youth and women in these areas and a factor for the rural development. Albanian partners in this project are the Ministry of Agriculture and the Mountain Areas Development Agency (MADA). /
