Flash floods hit Albania forcing evacuations

The State Police urged all citizens who had planned to travel to the south, to cancel any movement, as heavy rain caused rivers to overflow their banks and cause huge floods on several areas endangering also national axes.

At the same time the Police urges to all drivers to implement all legal requirements, collaborate with road police patrols to avoid any accidents. Rivers that pose a huge danger are those of Drin, Vjosa and Osum.

In the district of Gjirokastra: National roads are passable for the moment. A danger poses only the place known as Kthesa e Viroit the entrance of the town. The highway Gjirokaster-Lunxheri is blocked, so is Libohove-Sofratike.

In Permet, the highway Permet-Ēarshovė is blocked. The highway Tepelene - Permet is blocked in a place called Dragot.

In Berat the highway between Bogova and Provonik is blocked due to landslides. Many areas are flooded. In the city of Skrapar the bridge that connects 6 villages is not passable as the water has gone over the bridge. In Ura Vajgurore two families were evacuated from special forces using boats.

In Vlora district: Special task forces have evacuated 14 families in the village Firore in Novosella. The highwas Selenice-Vlora at a place called Bishti i Malit is blocked. The highway that leads to Vllahia is blocked due to landslides.

In the District of Fier: Gjanica River has flooded two neighborhoods of the, 1 Maji dhe Sheq. In Cakran river has flooded huge areas of lands.

Many areas in southern Albania have no power or water. Police urged residents to cancel travel plans as more intense rain will hit over the next few days. /albeu.com/
