UPDATE: Hashim Thaci has been elected the new president of Kosovo. He was elected in the third round, after the first two, which required two thirds of the votes failed.

Thaci got 71 votes in favor.

19:20 Even in the second round, no one of the candidates managed to get two thirds of the votes, which this means the Parliament will have to hold a third round, in which, the election can happen only with 61 votes.

In the second round, Thaci got 64 votes in favor, 15 were not valid, while Rama had two votes.

18:13 The first round to elect the new President of Kosovo has failed. 81 MPs voted today, 50 in favor of Thaci, 4 in favor of Rafet Rama, with 27 were not valid votes. The second round will start after a few minutes.

After attempting again to stop the process as the opposition used tear gas, along with its supporters, they clashed with the police in front of the Parliament.

The protesters threw Molotov bombs while the police answered with tear-gas and water canons. The Kosovo media say that Albin Kurti was among the protesters of the opposition. Police forces have surrounded the Parliament and dispersed the crowd.

The first two rounds demand for 80 votes, while the third, only 60. /albeu.com/
