Dozens injured in Macedonia anti-government protest

More than 2000 protesters clashed with police forces in Macedonia on Tuesday outside the government building in Skopje as they called for the resignation of the prime minister, involved in the wire-tapping scandal that has gripped the country.

They set rubbish containers on fire and threw stones at police who were guarding the building. The leader of the opposition Zoran Zaev accused police for excessive use of force. Petre Silegov the spokesperson of the government, said today that the government ordered the use of excessive force against the group of several thousand of people.

"We still don't know the exact number of those injured and beaten during the clashes" he said. SDSM is planning a larger rally on May 17th.

Also today, Minister of Interior Affairs, Gordana Jankulovska said that a total of 38 policemen were injured, while 30 protesters detained.

Today, people protested in Skopje and other cities like Manastir, Prilep. /albeu.com/
