The GDP per capita in Albania in 2013 was 8200 dollars, the same as Namibia e Tongo. That means that Albania is one of the poorest countries in Europe. According the CIA report “The World Factbook”, the government has undertaken a package of reform to reduce informality and to attract foreign investments.

“Even though the economy continues to grow, the country is one of the poorest, because of the high informality and inadequate transport infrastructure and energy”, the report reads.

Remittances, that were once the main contributor to economic growth, fell from 12-15 % that was before 2008 to 7 % in 2012. Albanian immigrants mostly in Greece and Italy. Also the agricultural sector that employs almost half of the employed people in the country, is not developed. It only has small farming and families only manage to earn money only for themselves.

There are also problems with the energy supply and this, combined with the inadequate infrastructure just makes it harder to attract foreign investors.
