Tirana is a model of co-existence, Tirana Mayor Lulzim Basha said in a meeting in Tirana Municipality with Hannah Rosenthal, Special Envoy to Combat and Monitor Anti-Semitism, and Farah Pandith, Special Representative to Muslim Communities for the U.S. Department of State.Rosenthal and Pandith appreciated the excellent climate of religious tolerance existing in Albania. They expressed profound gratitude to the Albanian people, who, during the holocaust, handed none of the Jewish people in to the Nazi, but they protected, sheltered and saved them in stead," according to Tirana Municipality press office. "Tirana is one of the cities, in which religious co-existence is tangible reality," Basha said, adding that great efforts were underway to fight discrimination and that a special office had been opened at Tirana municipality for this purpose.Hannah Rosenthal and Farah Pandith are in Albania under their mission, mandated by the U.S. Congress, to report and inform American authorities and the Congress on the efforts to combat anti-Semitism, discrimination, religious and ethnic intolerance worldwide. Accompanied by Basha, they also visited the Tirana Mosque, which is a monument of historical values. /
