The Manastir Congress or the Albanian Alphabet Congress convened on November 14, 1908 in Manastir (Macedonia) with the aim of standardizing the Albanian alphabet. In attendance of the congress were 150 delegates, comers from all over Albania as well as from Albanian communities in Romania, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, America, etc. Mithat Frashėri, the son of Abdyl Frashėri was elected chairman of the congress, Parashqevi Qiriazi, teacher of girls’ school in Korēa. Participants in the congress represented all religious communities, Muslims, Catholics, Orthodox, prominent figures united behind a major national goal.
