Mother Teresa, the Catholic nun who devoted her life to helping India's poor, has been declared a saint by Pope Francis in a mass held in the Vatican.

He delivered the formula for the canonization of the Albanian-born nun who is also known as the "saint of the gutters", before huge crowds of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square.

"Blessed Teresa of Calcutta to be a saint", Pope Francis said.

More than 100 thousand Albanians were present at the mass.

The decision of Pope Francis on December 17th, 2015 to recognize the miracle of Mother Teresa opened the way for her canonized and it was finalized today at the mass. /
